Hernia

Hernia is a condition where your intestines prolapse out of a natural or unnatural body opening

The commonest hernia we encounter is the inguinal hernia which generally occurs in males and is mainly in the groins

The exact cause is not known but more common in weight lifters and those who exert strain in the groins

This is a conditions which occurs through previously operated scar tissue. The body’s muscles become inherently weak after any surgery and people who are obese or have weak muscles the hernia can occur through any part of the abdomen where there is scar of previous surgery.

Hernia at umbilicus

This occurs through the bellybutton which a naturally weak spot of the body. This is more common in females and in obese patients

This is mainly seen as a bulge through the belly button

Hernia at epigastric region

This hernia is mainly a hernia of body fat and occurs in the upper part of the abdomen called epigastrium

Patients mainly complain of a lump but occasionally can cause pain

 

Treatment

The treatment options for hernia is mainly surgical

Belts and straps are no longer recommended as can cause harm than good
